ICT for Poverty Alleviation

I am the project leader for an initiative of the The Sumba Foundation — an online commerce system to market distinctive arts and crafts from the Indonesian Island of Sumba, home to one of the world's last intact Animist cultures. The aim of the project is to enhance income opportunities in rural areas, particularly for the women of Sumba, by creating markets abroad for their unique hand-woven textiles and handicrafts.

As the leader of the Sumba Style project, I have volunteered full-time for several months in Indonesia, where I have been responsible for all facets of project management and system architecture, including: content research, copy writing, product photography, information architecture, interaction and interface design, system and database architecture, application development, and staff training.
